Come visit Crazy K Farm®!
We offer three different educational programs, one for children and two for adults. All are by appointment only and all proceeds are used to care for the animal residents of our farm, the majority of which are rescues.
Field trip to a working farm/farm animal sanctuary for children and families
This is a hands-on educational tour. We spend 2 hours teaching the kids (and their parents) about the farm, animals and caring for them. We also touch on the business side of the farm and the products we make. Folks without allergies to eggs will get the chance to taste fresh eggs (hard-boiled white, tan, brown and even green!) from our pastured chickens. Longer itineraries are available. Groups of more than 10 children must be accompanied by at least two adult chaperones. 7 days a week.
The cost is a $4 donation per person. Tour is led by an experienced educator/scientist with a Ph.D.
Vocational field trip
We offer a one-day vocational field trip for adults who would like to know what it takes, time-, energy- and commitment-wise, to run a hobby farm, family agricultural business, farm animal sanctuary or home business. The day’s activities are personally tailored to your interests. Mentor(s) with extensive educational experience spend 8-12 hours mentoring an adult or couple who would like an overview of hobby/family farming or farm animal sanctuary work, and an understanding of what is required for you to start and run your business successfully. Perfect if you are thinking of maintaining your current job after moving to a farm or acreage within commute to a city; if you would like to quit or have lost your job and are thinking of a change of lifestyle; or if you would like some assistance navigating the process of starting a farm-oriented business.
The cost is $150 for one person or $250 for two people and includes box/campfire lunch with your mentor(s) and all informational materials. 7 days a week.
Working vacation weekend
We offer a working vacation weekend for an adult (or couple) who wants an in-depth experience learning about family farming, farm animal sanctuary work or starting their own a farm-oriented business. The itinerary is personally tailored to your interests, but is essentially a working vacation with one-on-one mentorship that enables you to test-drive life on a family farm and/or animal sanctuary. We offer two full days working with you on the farm and in the office. You will work along side us as we mentor you through the process of starting your business and the daily demands of keeping it running. By the end of the weekend you will have an excellent idea of what it takes physically, financially, mentally and emotionally to live your dream.
The cost is $500 for an individual, $750 per couple and includes box/campfire lunches with your mentors and all course materials (book, notebook, resource kit, and CD with business plan template and financial forecasting spreadsheets). Cost of off-site accommodation is not included. There are several hotels and B&Bs within a 10 mile radius of the farm. Compared to the cost for a similar arrangement with VocationVacations® ($849 per person), this is a fabulous deal!
