Our Rescued Birds
Our Birds - Each Requiring Specialized Care

Our sanctuary is home to 3 elderly parrots and 3 racing pigeons - all with special needs. These birds require expensive medical care, specialized diets, and daily attention to maintain their quality of life.

Parrots can live 50-80 years. The birds in our care have decades of life ahead of them, and they deserve every day to be comfortable, healthy, and loved.

MEET OUR PARROTS

🦜 Baby - African Grey Left Behind

Her Story:

Baby is an African Grey parrot who came to us after her owner passed away. In her owner's will, she was left to our sanctuary - a final act of love ensuring Baby would never be abandoned.

Baby has cataracts affecting her vision, requiring specialized care and monitoring.

Today:

Baby lives in a spacious enclosure designed for her visual limitations. She receives daily enrichment, companionship, and the specialized diet African Greys require. Her cataracts are monitored by our avian veterinarian to ensure she maintains the best quality of life possible.

Baby was left to us in trust. We honor that trust every single day.

🦜 Max & Melinda - The Amazon Parrots Who Beat the Odds

Their Story:

Max and Melinda are Amazon parrots who came to us 20 years ago in poor health. They had been fed a nut-rich diet - high in fat and lacking essential nutrients - which led to serious heart disease.

When they arrived, their prognosis was grim. Most sanctuaries would have euthanized them.

We didn't give up.

Today:

Max and Melinda are thriving 20 years later - a testament to proper diet, expensive medications, and consistent veterinary care. They receive:

Daily prescription medications for heart disease
Expensive supplements to support cardiac function
Bi-annual veterinary visits with ultrasound and x-rays to monitor heart health
Specialized diet designed for cardiac support
Daily monitoring for breathing, energy levels, and appetite
Both parrots now have cataracts affecting their vision, requiring additional monitoring and care.

Monthly Medical Costs Per Bird: $250

This includes:

Daily cardiac medications
Specialized supplements
Bi-annual vet visits ($500+ each visit)
Ultrasound and x-ray monitoring
Specialized low-fat diet
Emergency medical fund
Max and Melinda have been with us for 20 years. They'll be with us for 20 more if we have anything to say about it.

MEET OUR PIGEONS
🕊️ Grizzle - The Pigeon Who Couldn't Go Home

His Story:

Grizzle is a racing pigeon who failed to find his way home after a race. When we tracked down his owner, we were told to "just keep him because he failed at racing."

Grizzle has only half an upper beak - a severe deformity that makes eating difficult and requires specialized care.

Today:

Grizzle lives indoors in a safe, comfortable environment designed for his needs. His diet is adapted for his beak deformity - softened foods and specialized feeding techniques ensure he receives proper nutrition.

Grizzle may have failed at racing, but he succeeded at finding a home where he's loved.

🕊️ Phillip & Friend - The Racing Duo Who Found Peace

Their Story:

Phillip and his unnamed companion are also racing pigeons who couldn't find their way home. Like Grizzle, their owners told us to keep them because they "failed."

Today:

Phillip and his friend live in a spacious outdoor aviary where they can fly, perch, and enjoy the Texas sun. They receive daily care, fresh food and water, and regular health monitoring.

These pigeons weren't failures. They just needed a different kind of home.

WHY BIRDS NEED SANCTUARY

Parrots Live 50-80 Years
When people buy parrots, they rarely consider the lifetime commitment. African Greys can live 60+ years. Amazon parrots can live 80+ years.

What happens when:

Owners pass away (like Baby's owner)
Owners can't afford expensive medical care
Parrots develop chronic health conditions
Families move and can't take the bird
Most parrots end up abandoned, rehomed multiple times, or euthanized.

We give them permanent homes for life.

Racing Pigeons Are Disposable
Racing pigeons who don't perform are considered failures by their owners. They're released, abandoned, or told to sanctuaries: "just keep them."

These birds deserve better.

Grizzle, Phillip, and their friend may not have won races, but they won something more important: a safe, loving home for life.

Medical Care for Birds is Expensive

Avian veterinary care is specialized and costly:

Ultrasounds for cardiac monitoring: $300-500 each
X-rays for respiratory/cardiac issues: $200-400 each
Cataract monitoring and treatment: $150-300 per visit
Cardiac medications: $50-150 per month per bird
Specialized supplements: $30-80 per month per bird
Emergency care: $500-2,000+ per incident
Max and Melinda's bi-annual vet visits cost over $1,000 per bird.

Your donation ensures no bird is denied care.
