Horses, Donkeys, Sheep, Goats & Pigs - Each Saved from Death
Our sanctuary is home to livestock rescued from slaughter, abandonment, and neglect. From horses destined for kill buyers to goats saved from the meat market, every animal has overcome unimaginable circumstances to find safety at our Texas sanctuary.
These aren't just farm animals - they're individuals with personalities, emotions, and the will to live.
MEET OUR RESCUED HORSES
🐴 Honey - Saved from Slaughter
Their Story:
Honey was a failed race horse destined for slaughter - to be purchased by kill buyers who profit from sending horses to be processed for meat. Most people don't realize that thousands of horses are shipped across borders annually to be slaughtered for human consumption abroad.
We stepped in and saved her.
Today:
Honey lives peacefully on our 35-acre sanctuary. They grazes in open pastures, receive regular hoof care and veterinary monitoring, and will never face a slaughterhouse truck again.
She was hours away from death. Now she has the rest of her life.
🐴 Darling - Six Months of Love
Her Story:
Darling was a 30-year-old senior mare in poor health. Most sanctuaries would have turned her away, deeming her "too old" or "too expensive" to save.
We didn't give up.
For the last six months of her life, Darling received intensive veterinary care, specialized senior feed, pain management, and daily monitoring. She lived her final months surrounded by love - not fear or pain.
When Darling passed, she was comfortable, safe, and cherished.
Senior animals deserve dignity. Darling taught us that every day of life matters - no matter how many remain.
MEET OUR RESCUED PIGS
🐷 MJ, Botox, Tootsie & Rosie - The Pig Family
Their Story:
MJ, Botox, Tootsie, and Rosie came to us from different circumstances, but they all share one thing: they're alive because someone chose compassion over profit.
Pigs are intelligent, emotional animals. They form lasting friendships, play, explore, and feel joy - yet millions are raised in confinement and slaughtered annually.
Not these pigs. They're safe.
Today:
Our pigs live on pasture, root in the dirt, wallow in mud, and enjoy all the natural behaviors pigs should. They receive veterinary care, high-quality feed, and the freedom to just be pigs.
MJ, Botox, Tootsie, and Rosie prove that pigs deserve lives, not numbers.
MEET OUR RESCUED GOATS & SHEEP
🐐🐑 Saved from Slaughter
Their Story:
Our goats and sheep were rescued from slaughter auctions - terrifying places
where animals are sold to the highest bidder, often ending up as meat or sent
to live export ships.
These animals stood in pens, waiting to be loaded onto trucks heading to
slaughterhouses. We intervened
Today:
Our goats and sheep graze peacefully, protected 24/7 by our livestock guardian dogs Ursa and Tiggy. They receive:
Daily fresh pasture
Hoof trimming every 6-8 weeks
Parasite prevention medications
Specialized diets and supplements
Veterinary care for chronic conditions
Safe shelter from predators and weather
They were destined for plates. Now they thrive on pasture.
REMEMBERING EDDIE & PETALS - THE DONKEYS WHO LIVED TO 40+
🐴 Eddie & Petals - A Lifetime of Love
Their Story:
Eddie and Petals, our beloved donkeys, lived with us for many years and both passed peacefully at over 40 years old - a testament to the quality of care they received.
Donkeys can live 40+ years when given proper care, but many die prematurely from neglect, overwork, or abandonment. Eddie and Petals lived full, long lives surrounded by love.
They taught us patience, resilience, and the value of providing lifetime care.
Though they're no longer with us, their memory reminds us why this work matters. Every animal deserves to live their full life span in safety and comfort.
WHY LIVESTOCK NEED SANCTUARY
Horses Are Sent to Slaughter Every Day
Over 20,000 American horses are shipped to Canada and Mexico annually for slaughter. Many are healthy, rideable horses deemed "unwanted" by owners who can no longer afford them or don't want to pay for euthanasia.
Kill buyers purchase horses at auction for as little as $100-300, then profit by selling them for meat.
Honey and Hunter were in that pipeline. We saved them. But thousands more need help.
Goats and Sheep Are Slaughtered for Meat
Goats and sheep are commonly raised for meat production. At slaughter auctions, they're sold by the pound and loaded onto trucks heading to processing facilities.
Our goats and sheep were in those auction pens. They had hours - maybe minutes - before being sold for slaughter.
We gave them a different ending.
Pigs Are Sentient Beings
Pigs are as intelligent as 3-year-old children.
They:
Recognize their names
Form lasting friendships
Play games and solve puzzles
Feel fear, joy, and pain
Yet most pigs live in confinement and are slaughtered at 6 months old - babies, really.
MJ, Botox, Tootsie, and Rosie will live their full 15-20 year lifespans here, as pigs should.
Senior Animals Deserve Dignity
Darling was 30 when she arrived - ancient for a horse. Most sanctuaries would have turned her away.
We didn't.
For six months, we provided intensive care, comfort, and love. When she passed, she was surrounded by people who cherished her.
Senior animals aren't "too old" to save. They deserve peaceful endings.
